Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County (MHMHC) and Sportlanes are joining forces next weekend in the fight against cancer. Together, MHMHC and Sportlanes will host Kickin’ Butts at Sportlanes and Bowlin’ for Colons to promote cancer prevention, awareness, treatment and to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Martinsville-Henry County Relay For Life.
On Saturday, March 25th, from 12pm to 12am, Kickin’ Butts at Sportlanes will kick off the business’ new anti-smoking policy by offering free bowling, drink specials and live entertainment. Health care experts from Memorial Hospital will provide information about tobacco cessation, lung cancer screenings and oncology services available here in Martinsville and Henry County.
“Sportlanes is a family-friendly business and we have an obligation to provide a healthy environment for our customers and employees,” said Will Pearson, owner of Sportlanes. “As we continue to learn more about the negative long-term effects of smoking and second-hand smoke, we believe that going smoke-free will be a positive change for our customers, our staff and our community.”
On Sunday, March 26th, Memorial Hospital will host the first annual Bowlin’ For Colons to raise awareness about colorectal cancer prevention, screenings and treatment, as well as raise money for Relay For Life. A four person team, which includes shoes and games, costs $50, while a corporate lane sponsorship, which includes a lane banner and up to 2 teams, costs $200. The event will have two waves, one beginning at 2pm and one at 4pm.
“Memorial Hospital is excited to collaborate on these upcoming events to promote cancer awareness, prevention and treatment in our community, said Liz Harris, Director of Marketing at MHMHC. “In addition the recent launch of our comprehensive lung cancer screening program, March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Our hope is that both events will encourage people talk to their primary care physicians and schedule appropriate screenings.”
